When was the last time you checked and cleaned your home appliance filters? Regular cleaning of filters is essential for maintaining their efficiency and ensuring optimal performance. Over time, filters in appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners become clogged with dirt, dust and other particles. This can affect their ability to function properly. Cleaning your filters regularly is a simple way to keep your home appliances running smoothly. We show you how with our ultimate guide to maintaining your appliance filters.
Just like your other home appliances, your washing machine needs care and attention to operate at its best.
Safety first! Always unplug your washing machine from the power source before attempting any repairs or maintenance.
Filters are typically located at the front or the back of the washing machine and may be behind a small door or hatch.
Depending on the washing machine model, the filter may twist or snap out, or it may be held in place by screws that need to be removed. Remove the filter and soak it in hot water with a few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent for 5-10 minutes. This will help to loosen trapped dirt and residue. You may need to give it a light scrub with a soft bristled brush. Thoroughly rinse and allow to dry.
Inspect the inside of the machine for excess lint or debris. Clean the area where the filter is housed using a small brush and paper towel. You can even use a toothbrush to reach tiny crevices and hard to reach places.
Once the filter is dry, put it back in its place and secure it as it was before removal.
After cleaning and reassembling the filter, turn the power supply back on and run a test cycle to ensure proper functioning.
Note: The specific instructions may vary depending on the washing machine model, so refer to the user manual for specific instructions.
// We recommend checking and cleaning your washing machine filter every month.

The lint filter is an important part of your dryer. All dryers are equipped with a lint filter, sometimes known as a lint trap. It collects fibres and clothes particles as they tumble dry preventing them from clogging the airflow of your dryer’s vent system. We recommend cleaning your dryer lint filter after every use. Some dryers will have a light with a reminder to check your lint filter.
In most instances, you can find the lint filter in the door opening of the dryer. On some models, the lint screen may be located on the dryer’s back wall. Check your owner’s manual if you are unsure.
Depending on the dryer model, the lint filter may simply slide out or be held in place with clips or screws.
Roll off excess lint with your fingers. Wet a soft bristled brush with hot water and liquid detergent. Scrub screen to remove residue build-up. Rinse in hot water and allow screen to dry completely.
Excess lint often builds up in the cavity where your lint screen is located. To easily remove lint that has accumulated in this space, unplug your dryer and use your vacuum cleaner with a narrow attachment.
Reinstall the screen and turn the dryer on and run a test cycle to ensure proper functioning.
// We recommend checking and cleaning your dryer lint filter after every load.

To ensure that your vacuum cleaner is cleaning efficiently, the vacuum filter and canister needs to be cleaned regularly.
This should be easy to access. Check your manufacturer’s instructions if you are unsure where it is located.
Remove the vacuum cleaner filter and tap it against a hard surface to remove excess dust. It is a good idea to do this outdoors or over a bin! You can use a small, soft bristled brush to remove any excess dust.
Next give the vacuum filter a good rinse under running water. Do not use detergent – cool tap water will do the trick. Leave the filter to air dry for 24-48 hours (or until completely dry).
Lastly, once the filter is completely and thoroughly dry, place it back into the vacuum. Your vacuum cleaner is now ready for use.
Some vacuum cleaner filters are not washable and require replacement.
Bagged vacuum cleaners usually come with a replacement filter, which needs to be changed periodically. This can be a HEPA filter, a motor filter, or both. The frequency of replacement depends on several factors such as the type of filter, usage frequency and the amount of dirt and debris being vacuumed. To ensure the best performance and efficiency, it is important to check the manufacturer’s instructions and replace the filters as needed.

Air conditioners are essential for maintaining a comfortable living or working environment, especially during hot weather. However, in order to keep the air clean and cool, it’s important to regularly clean and check the filters.
Safety first! Turn off the supply of electricity to the unit before starting.
The filters are typically located behind the front grille or on the side of the unit.
Carefully remove the filters from the unit. In some cases, they may be secured with screws, while others may simply pull out.
Use a vacuum cleaner or a Quick Clean Kit to gently clean the filters. For heavily soiled filters, you can wash them with warm water and mild soap, making sure to let them dry completely before reinstalling them.
Inspect the filters for any signs of damage or wear, such as tears or holes. If the filters are severely damaged, it’s best to replace them.
Once the filters are clean and dry, reinstall them back into the air conditioner. Make sure they are securely in place and properly aligned.
After reinstalling the filters, turn on the air conditioner to make sure it’s functioning properly.
// We recommend cleaning your air conditioner filters at the start of each season and monthly during peak times.
